One of finest young players in the world, Dario Minieri hails from Rome, the capital city of Italy, and owes the trading card game Magic: The Gathering for his start in poker. A champion Magic player, Minieri travelled the world playing tournaments and the move to the poker circuit, where the rewards are considerably higher, was a natural one.
The accolades come thick and fast when charting the poker career of Dario Minieri. The young man from the Eternal City has achieved a great deal in his short career, and if his results to date are anything to go by, he looks certain to add to his successes at an astonishing rate.
Minieri learnt his trade online at PokerStars, playing heads-up Sit and Go’s. Dario himself points to a $12,000 win in a $10 rebuy as his breakthrough – a victory that saw him make the decision to play poker for a living. From that point he has achieved incredible success online, including one red-hot day in December 2007 when he chalked up $155,000, after winning three tournaments and going deep in the Sunday Million all on PokerStars. Minieri is also a hero to thousands of PokerStars players, after being the first player to win enough Frequent Player Points to buy a Porsche from the PokerStars VIP Store.
Dario has brilliantly transferred his online prowess to the live scene. Many a poker player will tell you that you haven’t really made it until you’ve won a coveted World Series of Poker* gold bracelet. Dario crossed this off the list in 2008 when he won Event 31, the $2,500 Six-Handed No Limit Hold’em, pocketing $528,418 for his trouble. Dario has a total of four WSOP* cashes, coming 543rd in the Main Event in 2006, and two further money finishes in 2007, in a $1,000 No Limit Hold’em event, and a 96th place in the Main Event for $67,535.
A regular on the PokerStars European Poker Tour, Dario has three cashes to his name, 22nd at the Grand Final in Monte Carlo in Season 2; and a string of three third place finishes - Baden in Season 3, San Remo in Season 4, and Warsaw in Season 5, for total EPT winnings of $790,465. Away from poker Dario enjoys soccer, watching movies and driving that well-earned Porsche, he is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays online using the screen name ‘Dariominieri'.
